The site-specific window installation “Neo-Gothic Rockets” was commissioned by the owner of 254 Park Avenue South for the corner windows of the second floor. The piece used light and reflective sheeting to play with the building’s architecture, the ornamentation on its spandrels and arrows on its sides, and the energy of the neighborhood.

In daylight, “Neo-Gothic Rockets” used the shapes of the building’s ornamentation to create a shimmering composition of industrial reflective sheeting in primary colors. At night, these shapes were backlit by the geometric glow of secondary colors that created variations of the lines of the windows and mullions. Together they created a sense of movement, amplifying the building’s architecture to mirror the urban rhythms of the neighborhood.

All That’s Left

The installation “All That’s Left” was shown in 2010 at the East/West Project in Berlin, Germany. It consists of ten boxes with LEDs embedded in reflective sheeting, and backlit with white light. They were combined to transform the heavy feeling of salvaged masonry into an evocative, ethereal experience. Their blue and green hues complement the color of red bricks, and their variation echoes that found in brickwork of older buildings.

This window installation at Mixed Greens Gallery in New York used the building’s architecture as its starting point, incorporating mullions, sills, and fire escape into its geometry. 2,642 LEDs joined with the hard edges and soft blends of gel filters to change the experience of the urban street.

Glimmering Grove

An installation with walls and columns covered with white prismatic reflective sheeting. Colored fluorescent lights contained in niches cut from the columns’ corners are faced with LEDs beamed through prism rods for a jewel-like effect. The sheeting glows from the fluorescents, while simultaneously reflecting the LEDs. The viewer sees the multiple reflections on the surfaces, and at the same time feels like the walls are dissolving into endless space.

“Luminous Layers” at Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery

A structure in the shape of a Figure 8 had staggered walls with hidden light, and fixtures with different colors of LEDs beamed through prism rods for a jewel-like effect. The LEDs reflected onto iridescent walls, adding a soft glow to the overall experience.
